Rome, GA – The Rome Braves in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves Foundation
announce the development of the Braves Miracle Field of Rome. This concept
is to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to play and enjoy
the game of baseball.
On Thursday August 11, 2005 at Turner Field, a grant from the Atlanta Braves
Foundation was presented to Mike Plant, Atlanta Braves Executive Vice President,
on behalf of the Rome Braves to begin development of the Braves Miracle Field
of Rome project adjacent to State Mutual Stadium. A specialized field made of
recycled rubber will be installed along with dugouts, restrooms, and a refreshment
stand complete with a brick façade similar to State Mutual Stadium.
The Braves Miracle Field of Rome will work in conjunction with the Miracle League
Association giving children with disabilities the chance to play baseball.
Children with special needs are not the only ones who benefit from the action on
the field. Through the “buddy” program, little league players and community
volunteers partner with Miracle League players to provide assistance and
encouragement. This partnership helps both sides as they share their love of
the great American pastime.
“This project is a small way of giving back to our community and will allow many
to enjoy the game of baseball,” says Rome Braves General Manager Michael Dunn. “Once completed, this facility will mirror the excellence of State Mutual Stadium
and allow the entire community to embrace the game.”
The Braves Miracle Field of Rome logo is patterned after the State Mutual Stadium
logo representing a baseball “diamond” as well as incorporating the Braves logo.

Georgia Power joined the Atlanta Braves Foundation as the first Founding Friend of the Miracle Field of Rome. A check was presented from Georgia Power Region Vice President Jeff Franklin to Rome Braves General Manager Michael Dunn at the Georgia Power offices in Rome. Also on hand for the presentation was Assistant to Region Vice President Curtis Hart and Erin White, Rome Braves Miracle Field coordinator.

“This level of financial commitment allows for the construction and operation for the proposed Miracle Field of Rome. “Our motto at Georgia Power is to be a citizen wherever we serve,” says Jeff Franklin. “Who wouldn’t want to help children? We thank the Braves for agreeing to do this.”
Michael Dunn appreciates the relationship with Georgia Power. “Georgia Power has been a vital member of the community and a great partner with the Braves and this showcases their commitment. We are fortunate to have Jeff, Curtis, and Georgia Power as valued community members as we move forward with the Miracle Field of Rome.”
